The Rookery

The Rookery is a boutique accommodation development located on the stunning coastline of Bicheno, Tasmania. Comprising twelve architecturally designed self-contained accommodation units, the project demanded exceptional planning, coordination and craftsmanship from start to finish.

Constructing on a remote peninsula presented a series of logistical challenges. High winds, heavy rain and restricted site access required careful planning throughout the build, while construction activities were thoughtfully coordinated to protect the site's resident penguin colony.

Adding to the complexity, the project's feature timber—including external cladding, decking and internal wall and ceiling linings—was supplied specifically for the development. Working with naturally varied BC-grade timber required exceptional craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail to achieve the premium finish envisioned for the project.

Throughout construction, the design continued to evolve, with refinements incorporated along the way while maintaining momentum and build quality. The completed development showcases premium finishes throughout, including precise three-millimetre shadow lines, granite benchtops and granite tiling, creating a refined accommodation experience that reflects the quality invested in every stage of construction.
